How to Design Apps and Websites That Look Expensive
Your app works and still looks cheap. Learn to direct Claude Code with real references, real systems and real research, so what you ship looks bought rather than generated.
What you will learn
- Explain why every AI built interface looks the same, and what to give an agent instead
- Pick a reference that fits your product rather than one that simply looks nice
- Turn any reference into a design document your agent actually follows
- Install and use the Refero MCP and skill to research design without leaving your editor
- Send Claude Code a Figma frame with the official MCP and get the design back as working code
- Research how shipped apps solve a screen with Mobbin before you build it
- Own your components and theme with shadcn/ui and tweakcn, so your agent can read and edit every one
- Add motion with Motion, Lenis and GSAP, including the reduced motion rules that keep it accessible
- Tell the difference between a problem that needs an MCP and one that needs a skill
Curriculum
- What This Course Fixes
- Why Everything AI Builds Looks the Same
Requirements
- Claude Code installed, and enough comfort to run a command in a terminal
- A project to work on. A landing page, a dashboard, anything real
- Free accounts for Refero and Mobbin, both usable on their free tiers
- No design background. That is the point of the course
About this course
Design is the last thing AI is bad at, and it is bad at it for a reason you can fix. A model predicts the most likely next thing, so asking for a landing page returns the average of every landing page it has seen. Average is exactly what nobody pays for.
That is why prompting harder does not work. Asking Claude to make something look premium produces a slightly darker version of the same page, because you have not given it anything specific to work from.
This course gives it specifics. You start by finding a gold standard reference and turning it into instructions, then wire Figma into Claude Code so a real frame becomes real code. Mobbin comes next, so your onboarding flow is based on how shipped products solve it rather than on a guess.
Then the system underneath: shadcn and tweakcn for components and theme your agent can actually read, and Motion, Lenis and GSAP for everything that moves, including the accessibility rules most tutorials skip.
Every tool is real, current and mostly free, and each install command is given to you to copy. Where an official skill exists you get the skill, where an MCP is the right answer you get the MCP, and where neither is worth installing the course says so and explains why.
You will not become a designer. You will have a repeatable process for producing work that looks considered, which is what most of the industry actually does and almost nobody teaches honestly.
Who this course is for
- Developers whose apps work properly and still look cheap
- Freelancers and agency owners losing pitches to prettier work
- Anyone shipping AI built products who is tired of the purple gradient
- People who would rather direct a good process than learn to draw
